The Situation: One of our largest customers, a national retailer, was having considerable problems with door damage from forklifts and other equipment. Issues such as low visibility, careless operators and high forklift loads were not only leading to damage of their doors, but also a direct hit to their bottom line. Constant damage to the hood enclosures of their overhead doors caused periods of inoperability resulting in lost efficiency. However, the largest threat was a potential liability resulting from damaged hood enclosures on their fire doors. If a damaged hood prevented a fire door from dropping in the case of a fire, the resulting costs could be astronomical. With over 4,500 locations nationwide, you can see why this issue needed to be solved.
The Task: We were tasked with helping our valued customer find a solution to this drain on their service budget and life safety liability. We developed a plan to ensure the correct products were provided, ultimately reducing the amount of repairs and service spend, while reducing their liability.
The Action: Cornell has found solutions to so many of our clients’ needs that we developed and recently introduced the ProtectPro Series of products. These specially designed products provide easy solutions to keep your operation up and running. Our door experts visited multiple customer sites and reviewed the problems they faced along with their security, safety and operational expectations. After analyzing the recurring issues, and using our industry leading knowledge, we recommended and provided our revolutionary door protection device; the Rolling Door Protector.
The Result: The Rolling Door Protector, attached near the coil area of the door, is a resilient yellow safety barrier that protects the hood and door from impact damage. It spans the opening so when an impact does occur, it absorbs the force. Even if the crash is severe and the safety bar is bent, it is much easier and much less expensive to replace the bar than the entire door. With the elimination of down-time, and the need for constant door replacement or repair, the Rolling Door Protector pays for itself after the first impact! We even took it one step further by getting the Rolling Door Protector approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Warnock Hersey, which allows the use of the Rolling Door Protector on both standard rolling doors and fire rated rolling doors.
